Tommy Robinson Leads Massive London March, Police Brace for Trouble

Thousands hit central London streets for a march led by right-wing firebrand Tommy Robinson. The event, dubbed by Robinson as “the biggest patriotic rally the UK has ever seen,” kicked off at the Royal Courts of Justice and marched on to Trafalgar Square by midday Saturday.

Union Flags and Patriotic Chants Fill the Air

Protesters sported Union, English, Scottish, and Welsh flags, belting out “Rule Britannia” and chanting “We want our country back” alongside calls of Robinson’s name. Some flew Israeli flags, while one eager marcher climbed atop a phone box for extra spotlight. Placards read, “Not far right, just right.”

Counter-Protests and Heavy Police Presence

Meanwhile, a counter-rally backed by Stand Up To Racism and the Peace & Justice Project – formerly led by Jeremy Corbyn – rolled out from Russell Square to Whitehall. Supported by the TUC and others, the counter-protest aimed to balance the scales amid tense street scenes.

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove vowed tough policing: “Our first priority is to keep the peace to ensure that those exercising their right to lawful protest can do so safely.” Around 1,000 officers managed march routes using powers under the Public Order Act to keep rival groups apart and prevent violence.

Trans Pride March Adds to Weekend Action

Adding to the day’s chaos, a Trans Pride event also took place, marching from Langham Place to Wellington Arch with speeches planned. Police confirmed no special conditions were imposed on this event.

With London’s streets patrolled heavily, authorities urged calm and cooperation to maintain safety amid the competing rallies and demonstrations.
