Volunteer Cops Crack Down on Bad Drivers in Broadstairs
Volunteer officers hit the streets of Margate Road, Broadstairs, on Thursday, 23 December 2021, stopping 95 vehicles in a targeted safety blitz. Their mission? To catch uninsured, untaxed, and otherwise dodgy motorists putting lives at risk.
Fines and Seizures Galore
- 37 Traffic Offence Reports issued
- 28 fines slapped on drivers
- One vehicle banned from the road for serious faults
- Six cars seized for lacking insurance or road tax
Special Sergeant James Johnston, who led the crackdown, said: “This was a highly successful operation that sadly shows too many drivers are flouting the law and endangering others. We will keep running these checks to make our roads safer for everyone.”
Meet the Volunteer Heroes
Special Constables are unpaid volunteers with the same powers as regular police officers. They dedicate at least 16 hours monthly, often juggling full-time jobs, to help police their communities.
They assist with traffic operations, attend collision scenes, hunt stolen vehicles, and respond to speeding and dangerous driving reports.
