On Saturday 18 March 2023, Greater Manchester Police received a report from a 72-year-old woman stating she had been raped the previous night at a Manchester address. Despite repeated pleas for him to stop, Chawla forced himself upon the victim, causing a traumatic ordeal.

Officers promptly attended the scene where the victim was immediately offered specialist support and care by trained officers and victim services to ensure her well-being following the assault.

Court Case And Sentence

Chawla was arrested on the same day and released pending further investigation. He was subsequently charged, stood trial in January 2026, and was found guilty. Today, 24 April 2026, he received a seven-year jail sentence at Manchester Crown Court.
