Blaze in Wickford Garage Quickly Tamed by Essex Firefighters
Firefighters from 1 and Rayleigh fire stations raced to a garage fire on London Road, Wickford earlier today. Thanks to their swift action, the flames were stamped out before spreading to nearby homes. The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) praised their crews for containing the blaze rapidly. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Electrical Fault Sparked the Fire
Fire investigators believe an electrical fault triggered the blaze. Residents are urged to regularly check wiring and avoid overloading sockets or extension leads to prevent similar disasters.
Firefighters Launch Door-to-Door Safety Blitz
While on scene, firefighters seized the chance to deliver vital fire safety advice to locals door-to-door. The checks revealed numerous homes without working smoke alarms. Crews fitted alarms free of charge as part of ECFRS’s ongoing campaign to boost household fire safety across Essex.
“You must have at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home,” said a fire service spokesperson. “It could save your life.”
