Is Trick-or-Treating on this Halloween? Number 10 Weighs In
With Halloween just days away, the big question on everyone’s lips is: Will Trick-or-Treat be allowed this year? As families ready their pumpkins and costumes, Number 10 has confirmed the answer depends on local COVID-19 restrictions under the government’s three-tier system.
Hampshire Greenlit – But Beware the Rules
Good news for kids in Hampshire! The region, including Southampton, East Hampshire, Winchester, Basingstoke, Portsmouth, and Isle of Wight, is in the Medium Tier 1 category. That means Trick-or-Treating IS allowed — but with strict conditions.
- No entry inside homes for children.
- Stick to groups of six or fewer — that includes adults chaperoning.
- Keep up social distancing at all times.
PM’s Spokesman Urges Common Sense
“The rules are there for all circumstances and people will have to use their common sense in ensuring they’ve followed the rules,” said a spokesperson for Boris Johnson.
Police Warn: Respect ‘No Trick or Treat’ Signs
Local police have issued safety advice and “no trick or treat” posters for those shielding at home. A police spokesperson said:
“If you are going trick or treating, please follow safety advice and respect homes displaying ‘no trick or treat’ signs. Some, especially the elderly, may be frightened by groups knocking at their doors. Halloween fun should not mean vandalism or bad behaviour.”
Stay Safe, Have Fun – And Don’t Forget the Hand Sanitiser
To keep everyone safe this Halloween, organisers recommend regular use of antibacterial gel. Keep groups small, stay outside, and remember: have fun, stay safe, and wash those hands!
