Brace yourselves! The UK is in for a cold snap this week as high pressure sweeps in from the north west.

Chilly Weather on the Cards

The Met Office warns of colder conditions, with London temperatures hovering in the mid to high single figures. A brisk easterly breeze will make it feel even colder, especially through the weekend and into early next week.

Dry and Cloudy with a Chance of Showers

Overall, expect mainly dry and cloudy skies thanks to a “blocking high” pressure system parked to the north west of the UK. This setup reduces the likelihood of heavy rainfall across most of the country.

However, London could see some light, sporadic showers creeping in from the east coast on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

Snow Alert? Not So Fast!

The Met Office has flagged a slight chance of sleet or light snow Sunday morning for the south east. But don’t get your hopes up – any snow is expected to be light and won’t settle or cause disruption.

“The set up is something called a blocking high where high pressure stays fairly consistent to the north west of the UK from Saturday onwards into early next week and what that does is reduce the chances of significant rainfall of any kind and it’s cloudy and dry out for the majority of the country,” said a Met Office spokesperson.

“For London specifically, there is a chance early next week of some showers just gradually moving in off of the eastern coastal areas.”

“On Sunday, there’s just a chance that some of those showers moving into the south east of the country will be sleety in nature on Sunday morning due to how cold the air will be, but it will be fairly light and it won’t accumulate to any kind of effect.”
