WWII Bomb Blown Up Safely in East Tilbury
Experts from the Ministry of Defence have successfully detonated a World War II bomb found at a building site off Station Road, East Tilbury. The device was discovered on Tuesday, November 5, sparking a massive 500-metre safety cordon and a multi-agency response.
Controlled Explosion Brings Road and Rail Chaos
The carefully planned blast went off between 12pm and 2pm today. Authorities shut down Station Road, Church Road, Coopers Shaw Road, and Fort Road to keep the public safe. Meanwhile, the c2c rail line between Grays and Pitsea was temporarily suspended.
Thankfully, the operation went off without a hitch, with no injuries or incidents reported.
Police Praise Public for Patience
“We are pleased that the operation went according to plan, ensuring public safety throughout the process,” said Chief Inspector Anthony Atkin, Thurrock district commander. “We appreciate the patience shown by local residents and travellers affected by today’s precautions.”
