New Defibrillator Brings Heart-Saving Hope to Dinham Community
Shropshire paramedics Sarah and Trish Johnson know the life-saving power of Public Access Defibrillators (PADs). Noticing a gap in coverage in their own Dinham area, west Ludlow, they took action to get one installed – and fast.
Dinham Left Defibrillator-Free – Until Now
While Ludlow already has several public Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), none were reachable in time for Dinham’s key spots: the allotments, Cliffe Hotel, and Cliff Park. This worry sparked a campaign led by Sarah, Trish, and former West Midlands Ambulance Service mentor Joy Hughes.
A Generous Gift in Memory of David Hughes
Joy, funding the AED in loving memory of her father David, chose a central location easily accessible from all three sites. Because the allotments lack power, nearby Cliff Park stepped up to host the unit inside a heated cabinet.
The AED is already on site and ready for action on “Restart a Heart Day” this Friday, 16th October.
Community Spirit Saves Lives
“Ludlow has a strong community spirit,” said Sarah Johnson (pictured with Cliff Park Warden Keith Bell). “The teamwork between Cliff Park, Wigley’s Field allotments, West Midlands Ambulance Service, and Joy’s kind donation means Dinham finally has a lifesaving Public Access Defibrillator. We’re thrilled it will be ready for Restart a Heart Day, underscoring how vital early CPR and defibrillation are during cardiac arrests.”
