White House Confirms US-Supplied Cluster Bombs in Ukraine Fight
Kyiv Deploys Controversial Cluster Munitions Against Russian Troops
The White House has openly confirmed that Ukrainian forces are now using US-supplied cluster munitions in their battle against Russian invaders. These deadly weapons, sent for the first time earlier this month, aim to break entrenched Russian lines and help Ukraine reclaim territory lost since Moscow’s brutal 2022 invasion.
Cluster bombs unleash dozens of smaller explosives, many of which can remain unexploded for years, posing a deadly threat to civilians long after the fighting ends. Due to this, many nations have banned their use, branding them cruel and inhumane.
White House Stands By Ukraine’s Use Amid Ongoing Intense Fighting
John Kirby, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, insisted that Ukraine is deploying the cluster munitions “appropriately and effectively.” He added these bombs have started disrupting Russian defensive positions and movements, giving Kyiv a vital boost in its grinding counter-offensive.
Yet the war is far from over. Despite over a month of fighting, large swathes of southern and eastern Ukraine remain under firm Russian control, with frontlines stubbornly static as Kyiv battles to push Moscow’s forces back.
Devastating Drone and Missile Attacks Hammer Ukrainian Ports
In a fresh wave of bloodshed, Russian drone and missile strikes slammed Ukraine’s strategic ports of Mykolaiv and Odesa. The “hellish” bombardment left at least three dead and over 20 wounded, while fiery blasts tore through buildings, some toppling in ruins.
Grain Export Deal Collapse Sparks Global Food Fears
Russia’s recent walkout from the Black Sea grain export deal has alarmed Ukraine and the world. Kyiv warned it would now consider ships heading to Russian-controlled ports as potential carriers of military cargo.
The deal, brokered last year by the UN and Turkey, had been vital to easing food shortages across war-hit and famine-prone countries like Afghanistan, Sudan, and Yemen. Russia’s withdrawal threatens vital grain shipments, hiking global wheat and corn prices and hitting vulnerable populations hardest.
Ukraine is calling on the UN and neighbouring nations to establish joint patrols for safe grain passage, warning of worsening food crises unless action is taken.
The world watches nervously as conflict rages and hopes mount for a breakthrough that could finally restore peace and stability to Ukraine before more lives are lost.
