Cat Owners Given 12 Months to Microchip Their Pets or Face Fine – UKNIP

Cat owners in England have been issued a warning that they have 12 months to microchip their pets or potentially face a fine of up to £500. Starting from June 10, 2024, it will be a legal requirement for all cats in England to be microchipped, leaving millions of cats currently without a microchip at risk of penalty.

Statistics indicate that there are currently around three million cats in the UK without a microchip. To comply with the new legislation, cat owners found without a microchipped cat after the 21-day grace period will face potential fines. The government aims to reduce the number of cats without identification and ensure their safety and welfare.
