Sadiq Khan Demands Urgent Ceasefire as Israel-Palestine Violence Rages On
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has slammed the escalating violence between Israel and Palestine, calling on world leaders to act fast and secure a lasting ceasefire. The brutal conflict, which erupted last year, has left thousands dead and families torn apart.
Khan Urges Global Leaders to Step Up
In a public statement, Khan warned that the bloodshed must stop now. He stressed the need for a peaceful two-state solution that guarantees safety and dignity for both Israelis and Palestinians. “More must be done to prevent these divisions from growing, not just overseas but here in London too,” he said.
He acknowledged the anxiety felt by London’s diverse communities about their loved ones caught in the crossfire. Khan urged unity and condemned hate crime and intolerance as violence escalates.
Condemning Terror and Highlighting Human Cost
Khan condemned the horrific Hamas attack on October 7, calling it a brutal act of terrorism. He expressed sympathy for the victims and solidarity with hostages taken during the conflict.
At the same time, he criticised Israel’s ongoing military campaign, which has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children. “These are not just statistics,” Khan said. “They are real people with dreams, loved ones, and grieving families.”
Call for Compassion Amid Crisis
The Mayor called on all Londoners to recognise the pain on both sides. He urged compassion for all victims, regardless of which side they support, and appealed to the city’s communities to embody empathy, respect, and humanity during these troubling times.
With the Israel-Palestine conflict marked by relentless bombings and rocket attacks, Khan continues to push for diplomatic solutions and peace talks that can finally bring an end to the bloodshed.
