New Rules Hit Hauliers Entering England from Abroad
From 6 April, all hauliers driving into England from outside the Common Travel Area (including Ireland) must comply with tough new COVID rules—unless they’re staying less than two days.
Testing Every 3 Days or Face Fines
Drivers must take a coronavirus test within two days of arrival and then every three days while in England. These measures aim to stop new COVID variants sneaking into the UK and spreading.
Testing remains free at information and advice points, community and workplace centres, or via home test kits. Don’t miss out – find out when and where to test before hitting the road.
Self-Isolate in Your Cab or Cough up to £1,000
Hauliers must also self-isolate inside their cab throughout their stay in England. They can only leave for essentials like grabbing food, medical emergencies, washing facilities, refuelling, or checking their vehicle’s safety.
UK drivers can isolate at home when off duty.
Officials will regularly check compliance. Hauliers breaking testing rules face fines up to £2,000. Failure to stick to cab isolation could cost up to £1,000.
Keep Checking Travel Rules
France has scrapped its negative test requirement for UK arrivals but other countries may still demand it. Drivers are urged to check entry rules for all destinations and get tested accordingly.
