Palestinian Man Shot Dead by Israeli Forces in West Bank Clash

Israeli troops have shot dead a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank after he allegedly opened fire and threw a grenade at soldiers. The dramatic incident unfolded in Deir Nidham, just west of Ramallah, when the military stopped a suspicious motorist on Monday.

Man Throws Grenade, Opens Fire at Soldiers

According to the Israeli army, the man got out of his vehicle, hurled a grenade at the troops, and started shooting. Soldiers fired back, killing the suspected attacker. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the victim’s death as Bilal Qadah, 33, from the nearby village of Shuqba. He was married with three children, reports the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Red Crescent Ambulances Blocked, Tensions Flare

Eyewitnesses say Israeli forces blocked Red Crescent ambulances from reaching Qadah after the shooting, leaving him without medical aid. The killing sparked outrage. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hailed Qadah a “heroic martyr” who stood up to the Israeli occupation.

Violence Escalates in West Bank Amid Rising Clashes

The West Bank has seen a surge in violence over the last 15 months, with more raids by Israeli forces and attacks by Jewish settlers on Palestinian communities. Just last week, a major Israeli military operation in the hotspot city of Jenin left at least 12 Palestinians dead, including three children.

The raid involved hundreds of soldiers and sparked further violence, including a fatal attack on an Israeli soldier. Since spring 2022, Israel has increased raids in Palestinian areas following a spike in Palestinian attacks on Israelis. The ongoing cycle of violence has left over 150 Palestinians and at least 26 Israelis dead so far this year.
