Russia Launches Massive Missile and Drone Strike on Ukraine
In one of the biggest attacks in weeks, Russia blasted Ukraine with a huge wave of missiles and drones early Monday. The strikes hit vital infrastructure across 15 regions, killing at least three people and injuring many more. The assault has sharply escalated tensions and raised fresh fears for civilians caught in the crossfire.
Power Plants and Water Supplies Targeted
Ukrainian officials revealed that Russia aimed to cripple key energy resources ahead of winter by targeting power plants, water supplies, and other essential facilities. Major cities including Kyiv, Lviv, and Kharkiv suffered widespread damage and blackouts after the relentless barrage of missiles and drones.
Russian military sources claimed the attack involved “high-precision” cruise missiles and drones hitting strategic sites. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed severe damage to critical infrastructure, with emergency teams working round the clock to restore power and services.
Ukraine Demands More Western Support Amid Escalation
Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to the Ukrainian president, urged Western allies to speed up military aid and provide advanced air defence systems. “Russia continues to target civilians and essential services. We need more support to protect our people and infrastructure from these barbaric attacks,” Yermak said.
Meanwhile, Russia defended its strike as retaliation for a Ukrainian drone attack on an oil refinery near Moscow over the weekend. The deadly tit-for-tat has ramped up violence to new heights in recent weeks.
Global Calls for Ceasefire Grow Louder
The international community has condemned Russia’s latest assault, calling for an immediate ceasefire. But the situation remains tense as Ukraine braces for more attacks amid ongoing warfare. Authorities are still assessing the full damage, with casualty numbers expected to climb as rescue efforts continue.
