Gunman Kills Six at German Church Before Taking Own Life
A 35-year-old man, known only as Philipp F. due to German privacy laws, launched a deadly attack at his former congregation. He massacred six people before turning the gun on himself as police arrived.
Eight Injured, Pregnant Woman Loses Baby
The horror didn’t end there. Eight others were wounded, with four in serious condition. Tragically, a pregnant woman at 28 weeks lost her baby because of injuries sustained in the attack.
Motive Mystery & Failed Warning Signs
Authorities are still scrambling to understand why Philipp F. struck. However, police revealed they had recently received an anonymous tip claiming the gunman harboured anger toward Jehovah’s Witnesses and might be mentally unfit to own a firearm.
Despite this, a January police visit found no legal grounds to revoke his weapon. Hamburg police chief Ralf Martin Meyer stated: “An anonymous tip alone regarding possible psychological illness does not justify removing a person’s gun.”
Chancellor Condemns Attack as “Brutal”
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned the shooting as “a brutal act of violence.” He urged society to unite in spotting warning signs earlier to prevent future tragedies.
This shocking massacre raises urgent questions about gun laws and mental health checks in Germany.
