Three protesters have been hit with police charges after leading a chant calling for an ‘intifada’ during a fiery rally in central London. The dramatic arrests have sparked a serious probe into hate speech linked to the demonstration.

  • Haya Adam, 21, of Edgware Road, Westminster
  • Azza Zaki, 60, also from Edgware Road, Westminster

Harsh Charges Under Public Order Act

On Monday 26 January, the trio was charged with using threatening or abusive words intended to stir up racial hatred. Their offences fall under sections 18(1) and 27(3) of the Public Order Act 1986. They’re set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 February.

Chaos Outside Ministry of Justice

The arrests go back to the evening of 17 December, outside the Ministry of Justice in Petty France, Westminster. Police swooped after the suspects were linked to chanting slogans demanding an ‘intifada’. The Met’s Public Order Crime team launched a full investigation into the hateful chants echoing through the protest.

A 17-year-old boy arrested on the same night won’t face any further action.
