Tornado Tears Through Eastern China Leaving 10 Dead
A vicious tornado ripped through Suqian in Jiangsu Province, eastern China, killing 10 people and injuring several more. The disaster struck on Tuesday afternoon, state media confirmed on Wednesday.
Homes Destroyed, Hundreds Displaced
The tornado’s fury affected over 5,500 residents. Preliminary reports reveal 137 houses collapsed, forcing 400 people from their homes. Streets were littered with debris as powerful winds hurled signs and objects through the air.
“Yesterday afternoon, a strong tornado occurred in Suqian, Jiangsu Province… causing casualties and property loss in certain areas,” said CCTV, China’s state broadcaster.
Extreme Weather Nightmare Continues in China
Videos released by official outlets like People’s Daily show the storm’s terrifying force. This is the latest blow in a summer of record rainfall and historic heatwaves sweeping across China.
Scientists warn these extreme weather events are becoming more frequent due to the ongoing impacts of climate change.
Jiangsu’s Grim Past with Devastating Storms
Jiangsu is no stranger to nature’s wrath. Back in 2016, the province suffered a lethal storm with hurricane-strength winds and its worst tornado in 50 years. That disaster flattened entire villages and killed at least 98 people.
As China battles more frequent climate crises, the toll on communities keeps mounting.
