Woman Charged After Pestering Southampton Residents for Cash
Police have arrested and charged Lisa Hopkins, 24, from Lower Brownhill Road, following reports of a woman repeatedly knocking on doors across Southampton and asking for money.
Multiple Reports Spark Police Action
The harassment charges come after four separate incidents between March 30 and April 2. Residents in St Martins Close, Lower Brownhill Road, Corbiere Close, and Alderney Close reported a woman going door to door asking for cash.
Hopkins is set to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court 1 on Thursday, April 28.
Police Issue Safety Warning to Residents
Inspector Kerry Loveless urged locals to stay vigilant. “Don’t open the door until you’ve checked who it is. Keep the chain on while you find out what they want,” she said.
She added, “If you’re not expecting anyone, don’t let strangers in — no matter what they say. Genuine callers will understand your caution.”
Inspector Loveless also warned against letting in anyone asking for favours like using your toilet or borrowing your phone. Instead, direct them to a public place such as a shop or office.
