University of Portsmouth Snaps Up Top Global Engagement Chief
The University of Portsmouth has landed a big fish in Chris Chang, its new Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement. This bold hire is a major move in the uni’s plan to boost international partnerships and sharpen its global edge.
Global Expert Chris Chang Joins the Ranks
Chris Chang currently shines as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Corporate Marketing, International and Development Services at Anglia Ruskin University. With over 20 years in higher education and a background as a qualified barrister, Chang is a powerhouse in global academia. He officially starts his new gig at Portsmouth on 1 September 2025.
Portsmouth’s International Ambitions Take Off
The uni is home to students from more than 130 countries, already boasting a rich, diverse community. Chris Chang’s arrival is spot on for the university’s vision to step up as a truly international institution.
“His appointment aligns perfectly with our ambitions to develop our global reputation and build stronger international connections,” said a university spokesperson.
From Barrister to Global Education Leader
Chris kick-started his career in law, qualifying as a barrister in 1986 and practising at the High Court of Malaya. Switching gears in 1990, he moved into higher education, taking on key international roles at leading institutions like:
- University of London (Stamford College, Malaysia)
- Manchester Metropolitan University (Head of International)
- Brunel University (Director of International and Academic Services)
- Anglia Ruskin University (since 2013)
