Woman in her 60s Dies as Powered Glider Crashes in Hampshire
A tragic powered glider crash near Preston Candover has claimed the life of a woman pilot this lunchtime. The woman, believed to be in her 60s, took off from Lasham Airfield shortly after 11.30am before the craft went into trouble.
Glider Plummets From Sky, Breaks Apart in Cornfield
Emergency services raced to the scene just after midday, but the pilot could not be saved. The powered glider, fitted with a small backup engine, came down hard in a cornfield close to Southwood Farm, breaking into pieces.
A local resident who saw the crash said: “There was a noise coming from the glider, then it just dropped from the sky.”
Investigation Underway as Experts Use Drone for Clues
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) dispatched a team to examine the wreckage and used a drone to gather aerial evidence throughout the afternoon.
Hampshire Constabulary officers remain on site, working alongside AAIB investigators to piece together what went wrong in this fatal accident.
