11 Year Old Boy Rescued By Portsea Lifeboat after clinging to Eastney Pier

Portsea Rescue 1 was tasked by solent Coastguard, just before 4pm on Sunday afternoon to reports of a boy clinging to the bottom of the pier structure at the outfall at Eastney. Portsea Rescue 1 responded immediately, backed up by Portsea’s rescue watercraft.

The boy was located in a precarious position, clinging to the bottom of Eastney Outfall pier, unable to swim back to shore against the strong currents. Spring high tides meant that water flow in the harbour entrance was at its peak. Coxswain Luke Daurvalla and crew Roly Warmington quickly assessed the situation and were able to maneuver Portsea rescue 1 in difficult conditions to recover the casualty to the safety of the beach, where he was met by Portsmouth Coastguard and assessed for any injuries.
