Drama at Portsmouth Chalk Pit as Three Girls Plucked from Peril
Fire crews have issued a stark safety warning after three young girls were dramatically rescued from a towering chalk pit face in Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon.
Trapped 30 Metres Up
The youngsters had attempted to scale the 70-metre chalk pit when one got stuck about 30 metres up. Alarmed friends quickly raised the alert, sparking a swift rescue mission.
Firefighters Rush to the Scene
The first responders were from the Cosham 1 fire crew, who immediately called in extra muscle – including the Rescue Tender and a second Cosham appliance. A Southsea crew with an aerial ladder platform was also deployed but ended up standing down.
Quick Rescue, No Serious Injuries
The operation wrapped up by 5:50pm, just 30 minutes after the emergency call. Crews used a 13.5-metre ladder to safely bring the stranded trio back to solid ground. Luckily, none of the youngsters suffered injuries – only their pride took a hit.
Fire officials have stressed the dangers of climbing chalk pits and urged youngsters to stay safe and stay away from risky adventures.
