Thief Targets Elderly Women in Shocking Christmas Crime Spree

Trusted Stranger Turns To Cold-Hearted Robbery

On December 21, 2020, David James Law, once from Northampton, broke into the home of an elderly woman in St Andrew’s Street. The woman had befriended him, but he betrayed her trust by snatching her handbag and knocking her off balance as he made a swift getaway.

Cash Stolen and Bank Cards Drained Before Christmas

Not content with stealing the cash inside, Law also used the victim’s bank cards to withdraw over £300. This left the elderly lady struggling financially just days before Christmas.

Wicked Repeat Attack Hits Another Pensioner

Only a week later, on December 28, Law struck again. He grabbed a handbag off a woman in her late 70s on Kingsley Park Terrace and sprinted away, leaving her traumatised and distressed.

Justice Served: Over Five Years Behind Bars

Police launched a swift investigation, leading to Law’s arrest and charge. Last week at Northampton Crown Court (March 24), he was handed a hefty sentence of five years and two months in prison.

Lead Investigator DC Chris Forshaw said: “Firstly, I would like to thank PC Olivia Mawby who I have worked in unison with on this case. Seeing Law handed a sentence of more than five years is a really good result, and I hope he is ashamed of himself for these cowardly crimes.

“Whilst the physical effects of these robberies were thankfully quite minimal, the psychological damage done to these two women has been immense. Being robbed is something that never leaves you, regardless of age.

“Both women have supported our investigation from the beginning, so I would like to thank them and I hope the conclusion of this case provides them with a sense of closure.”
