A major artery between Fareham and Gosport was slammed shut this afternoon after a nasty head-on collision. The smash happened on Newgate Lane, right by the Tanners Lane junction on the Fareham/Gosport border.

Crash Chaos: Injuries and Traffic Nightmare

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene after two cars collided. One driver was treated at the roadside then taken to hospital with injuries thought to be minor. Reports say one victim suffered chest pains while the other had a bruised wrist.

Traffic Backed Up for Miles

The crash caused lengthy queues stretching back to Fareham’s Market Quay Roundabout. Drivers were forced to hunt out alternative routes, adding to the gridlock.

Bus Services Hit Hard

Local buses were thrown into disarray too. Services 21 and 21A had to divert via Redlands Lane, St Michaels Grove, 1 Avenue, and Peak Lane to reach Stubbington.

Update: Road Now Reopened

The vehicles have been cleared and Newgate Lane is back open. Traffic has started to ease, but delays earlier in the day left many frustrated.
