Newgate Lane Shut in Fareham After Horror Three-Vehicle Crash
Newgate Lane in Fareham, Hampshire, was shut down this morning after a serious three-vehicle crash near Longfield Avenue. Emergency crews scrambled to the scene just after 9am following a collision involving a Mercedes Sprinter van, a Vauxhall Zafira people carrier, and a large wood-carrying lorry.
Dramatic Rescue as Firefighters Cut Roof Off Car
Two fire crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue in Fareham battled to free the trapped Vauxhall driver. Using specialist cutting tools, they removed the car’s roof to safely extract the injured driver. The casualty was rushed away on a spinal board by ambulance with serious injuries.
Eyewitness: Van Driver ‘Looked Like Having Medical Episode’
A woman waiting at a nearby bus stop told how the Mercedes van came over the hill on the wrong side of the road and crashed into the silver people carrier “in slow motion”. The van then slammed into the flatbed lorry. She said:
“The driver looked like he was having some sort of medical episode.”
Road Closed for Hours Amid Ongoing Investigation
Hampshire Road Policing officers and collision investigators closed Newgate Lane. The road was expected to remain shut for several hours while police investigate. They are urging anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Havant Road Police on 101.
