Two Horses Killed in Horror Crash with Car in Guildford

Tragedy struck this morning on Westwood Lane, Normandy, as two horses were fatally hit by a car. The shocking collision happened around 9am on Sunday 26th November 2017, leaving horse owners devastated and the local community shaken.

Crash Details: Horses Killed, Riders Injured

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the single-vehicle accident. One horse died instantly on Westwood Lane, while the second bolted and collapsed on nearby Flexford Road, where it was also pronounced dead by a vet.

The two riders, a woman in her 50s and a young girl in her early teens, suffered minor injuries. The woman was treated at hospital as a precaution, but both escaped serious harm. The driver of the car was unharmed, and no arrests have been made as investigations continue.

Road Closure and Police Appeal

Westwood Lane near the junction with Flexford Road was closed for several hours during emergency response and clean-up operations. Surrey Roads Police have since reopened the road but are urging anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

“We are appealing for witnesses,” Surrey Police said. “Anyone with information should call 101 and quote reference P17297605.”

Likely En Route to Equestrian Event

It’s believed the horses and their riders were heading to a dressage event at Parwood Equestrian Centre when the tragedy occurred. Friends were seen comforting the devastated owners at the scene.
