Taxi driver escapes jail after mowing down Delivery Driver

A mini-cab driver has been sentenced after causing the death of a moped delivery driver in Westminster. Rakin Ahmed, 23 of Trinity Close, E11 was found guilty of causing the death of 24-year-old Iqbal Faizurrahman by careless driving after a collision in Maida Vale. Police were called on 1 December 2016 at around 11.20pm to a report of a collision between a car and a motorcycle at Sutherland Avenue at the junction with Shirland Road, W9. Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and found Iqbal seriously injured at the location. An investigation established Ahmed was travelling on Shirland Road approaching the junction with Sutherland Avenue when he turned right, directly into the path of Iqbal who was travelling in the opposite direction. Iqbal’s moped collided with the front of Ahmed’s vehicle throwing him from the bike. Ahmed stopped his vehicle and called the emergency services. Iqbal, who was working as a pizza delivery driver at the time of the collision, died at the scene. Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit completed the investigation. Ahmed was found guilty on Thursday, 24 May. Ahmed was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 25 May to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was also sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
