Mini-cab driver jailed over fatal crash that killed pizza delivery lad
A mini-cab driver has been sent down after a careless driving crash claimed the life of a young moped delivery man in Westminster.

Rakin Ahmed, 23, from Trinity Close, E11, was found guilty of causing the death of 24-year-old Iqbal Faizurrahman. The tragedy happened on 1 December 2016 around 11.20pm at the junction of Sutherland Avenue and Shirland Road, W9.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene after reports of a collision between Ahmed’s car and Iqbal’s moped. Iqbal, a pizza delivery driver, was found seriously injured and sadly died at the scene.
Careless turn led to deadly crash
The investigation revealed Ahmed turned right onto Sutherland Avenue, directly into Iqbal’s path. The moped smashed into the front of Ahmed’s cab, throwing Iqbal from his bike. Ahmed stopped immediately and called emergency services.
Justice served at the Old Bailey
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit led the probe. On Thursday 24 May, Ahmed was convicted of causing death by careless driving.
The following day, Friday 25 May, he was sentenced at the Old Bailey to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work and has been banned from driving for 12 months.
