Man Arrested Over Tragic Death of 13-Year-Old Lucy McHugh in Southampton Woods
A man has been arrested following the heartbreaking discovery of 13-year-old Lucy McHugh’s body in Southampton.
Lucy Found Dead in Sports Centre Woodland
Lucy’s body was found in the woods near the Sports Centre at 7:45am on Thursday, 26 July. The young teen had been reported missing the night before after she failed to return home.
Detective Superintendent Paul Barton said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go out to Lucy’s family and friends at this terrible time. We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of her death and are asking for the public’s help.”
Last Seen Wearing Distinctive Band Jacket
Lucy was last seen leaving her home on Mansel Road East at 9:30am on Wednesday, 25 July. She was wearing a black jacket with white sleeves, featuring the band logo for Falling in Reverse on the front and ‘RADKE 01’ in red on the back.
Police want anyone who saw Lucy, had contact with her, or knows her movements on Wednesday to come forward immediately.
Man Held on Suspicion of Murder and Sexual Activity with a Child
A 24-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of murder and engaging in sexual activity with a child. He remains in custody while detectives continue their inquiries.
A post mortem examination took place on Friday, 27 July. Some injuries found are currently unexplained as the investigation presses on.
