Crews wearing breathing apparatus had to retreat as conditions inside became too unsafe to continue tackling the blaze. Southern Gas Networks stepped in to cap off a gas supply that fueled the fire throughout the day.
Road Closures Disrupt Local Traffic
- Some road closures around Sandown have now been lifted.
- However, parts of Culver Parade remain closed to pedestrians and vehicles.
- Closures persist between Crescent Road and Victoria Road.
- Crescent Road remains shut between Culver Parade and Avenue Road.
- Southern Vectis bus routes 2 and 3 have resumed normal service.
- Route 8 is still diverted until road closures are fully cleared.
