Man Jailed for Two Years Over Terror Calls Targeting Cameroon
Police Nab West London Man for Violent Social Media Posts
A West London man has been locked up for two years after sharing violent messages targeting Cameroon on social media.
Swedish national Ganye Kwah-Driscole, 47, was caught after Met Police Counter Terrorism Command officers spotted a tweet about “a big explosion” at an embassy back in May 2018. The chilling post sparked an immediate investigation.
Multiple Terrorism-Linked Posts Uncovered
The cops dug deeper and uncovered four more tweets threatening violence against Cameroon’s embassies and government. On 26 June 2018, they arrested Kwah-Driscole at his home for encouraging terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2006.
“Kwah-Driscole’s messages were incendiary and had the potential to motivate people thousands of miles away to violence,” said Acting Commander Alexis Boon of the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command. “It was important that we stopped Kwah-Driscole from publishing any more messages like this.”
Sentenced for Encouraging Terror Attacks
Kwah-Driscole pleaded guilty to five counts of encouraging terrorism in May 2019. On 13 June, Kingston Crown Court sentenced him to two years behind bars, with sentences running concurrently.
