Major Blaze Shuts Down Busy Ilford Road

The A123 Cranbrook Road near Gants Hill is shut both ways after a fierce fire tore through a flat above a shop this Wednesday afternoon.

Six Fire Engines Battle Huge Flames

Just after 3pm, London Fire Brigade scrambled six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to the scene on Cranbrook Road. The flat was well alight, with half of the first floor and roof severely damaged.

Dramatic Rescue Efforts Involved Ladders and Drone

Firefighters used an aerial ladder platform and even deployed a drone to get a better view while tackling the flames. The blaze was brought under control by 7.02pm.

Investigation Underway Into Cause

Crews from Hainault, Ilford, Woodford, Stratford, and Dagenham all helped fight the fire. The cause remains unknown and is currently under investigation.

“Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a flat fire above a shop on Cranbrook Road, Ilford,” said an LFB spokesman. “Half of the first floor and roof were damaged. Firefighters used aerial ladder platform and a drone to tackle the blaze.”
