Rapist on the run caught and jailed after fleeing UK for Ghana

Fugitive brought back from Ghana

Ransford Buabeng, 34, who fled the UK for Ghana before his trial started, has finally been returned and jailed. Buabeng, formerly of Morris Close, Rugby, skipped bail in September 2016 as he awaited trial.

Convicted in his absence

Despite his disappearance, Buabeng was convicted in December 2016 at Warwick Crown Court. He was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl back in September 2012.

Drunken attack exposed

Prosecutors revealed Buabeng and an accomplice plied the victim with alcohol before the assault. He was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for the brutal crime.
