A man faces serious charges after a car rammed into pedestrians in Ipswich, leaving one fighting for life.
Black Audi Mows Down Three Men on Pavement
At 12.25am on Sunday, March 8, police rushed to St Helens Street following a horror collision. A black Audi A3 mounted the pavement near the junctions of Regent Street and Dove Street, striking three men. Two suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Ipswich Hospital.
One victim, a man in his 40s, was later transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The condition of the second injured man has been described as stable.
Crash Linked to Pub Brawl at Waterlily
Police say the incident is tied to an earlier fight between two groups inside the Waterlily Public House. Around 12.15am, a group of men left the pub on foot. Shortly afterward, the Audi was seen turning into St Helens Street before ploughing into the pedestrians.
Suspect in Custody, Police Search for Witnesses
At 1.30am, officers arrested a 31-year-old Ipswich man on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder. He remains in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.
Police are not currently seeking anyone else over the incident but urge anyone who witnessed the smash or has dashcam footage from St Helens Street between 12.15am and 12.25am to come forward.
