Charges have been brought against a man after two officers were reportedly assaulted in Snodland.

At around 9pm on Monday 30 March 2020 police were called to a disturbance at an address in Covey Hall Road. It is alleged that as they attempted to arrest a man the suspect grabbed an officer around the throat and threw her to the floor. A second officer was also assaulted and bitten on the hand.

Steven Seeley, aged 37, of Covey Hall Road, Snodland was arrested and later charged with two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker. He was also charged with two further assaults, relating to the initial disturbance. Mr Seeley appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 1 April and was bailed to return to the same court on 22 May.

The Assaults on Emergency Workers Act came into force in November 2018 and created a new offence of assault against emergency workers – including police, paramedics, nurses and other blue light workers. It also provides tougher sentencing powers for judges.
