Inmate Sets Cell on Fire at HM Wormwood Scrubs
Fire crews raced to Wormwood Scrubs Prison after an inmate deliberately set his cell ablaze. The Victorian jail, housing up to 1,279 prisoners, was shaken by the fiery incident on “D wing.”
Quick Action from Prison Staff Prevents Disaster
Prison staff sprung into action, dousing the flames before firefighters even arrived. The London Fire Brigade was called automatically, as per protocol for any prison fire.
“Staff quickly extinguished the cell fire. No one was injured, and the fire brigade were called,” a Prison Service spokesperson confirmed.
No Injuries, But Punishment Looms
Thanks to swift teamwork, no prisoners or staff were hurt. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to check for lingering hotspots. The inmate responsible will face disciplinary action and be placed on report for the stunt.
