A suspected moped thief has been arrested after a vehicle was stolen in Canterbury.

The man was arrested at 5.30pm on Wednesday 15 April 2020 after the bike was stolen from the University of Kent campus on Tuesday 3 March.

The 19-year-old, from the Canterbury area, was detained on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and later bailed until Friday 8 May.

Following the arrest, Sergeant Colette Todd, of Canterbury’s Community Safety Unit, said: ‘I would like to remind all moped and motorbike users to ensure their bikes are kept securely.

‘Make sure they are locked, chained and covered when parked and consider fitting an alarm to alert you if it is interfered with.

Bike owners should also try to park their vehicles in areas which are well-lit and covered by CCTV.

‘Marking parts of the bike will also make them easier to recover in the unfortunate event that it is stolen.’
