13-Year-Old Filmed Kicking Cops in Hackney Gets Referral Order
Shocking Attack on Officers Caught on Camera
A 13-year-old boy caught on video kicking two police officers in what was called a “horrific attack” has been handed a nine-month referral order. The chilling footage, filmed during an attempted arrest in Hackney on 10th June, went viral and sparked outrage across social media worldwide.
PC Reem Ali and PC Andrew Macpherson Targeted
PC Reem Ali and PC Andrew Macpherson were trying to detain a suspect linked to an assault when a group of youths closed in. The 13-year-old initially filmed the scene but then joined the fray, launching kicks at the officers. London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Home Secretary Priti Patel both condemned the vicious assault on the frontline heroes.
Apology and Court Hearing
At Stratford Magistrates’ Court, the boy—who cannot be named for legal reasons—pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker. He told PC Ali, “Don’t ever f***ing chat to me like that,” as tensions escalated. The court heard the teen claimed he acted “impulsively” after being influenced by recent events in the US and the Black Lives Matter movement.
“It’s hard to be a police officer,” the boy wrote in an apology letter submitted to the court.
Sentencing and Aftermath
Chairwoman Sharon Higgins described the attack as a “serious offence” but acknowledged the boy’s youth and the emotional context of the incident. She said the sentence was intended as a wake-up call. Alongside the referral order, he was ordered to pay £307 in costs, including £100 compensation to each injured officer.
The boy’s parents attended the hearing, while police officers involved continue to recover from the shocking encounter.
