Man Jailed Over Murder Car Plate Cover-Up in East London
A 24-year-old man who swapped number plates on a car involved in a brutal East London murder has been locked up for six-and-a-half years. Jack Bush of Oakdale Road, Leytonstone, was also banned from driving for four-and-a-half years after trying to hide crucial evidence.
Swapping Plates After Fatal Hit-and-Run
Bush initially denied perverting the course of justice but changed his plea mid-trial at the Old Bailey on 6 August. The deadly incident unfolded in Leytonstone’s High Road at 12.40am on 5 May 2019 when two pedestrians were hit by a car.
Riyaz Adam, who had been friends with Bush, was behind the wheel. He was later convicted of manslaughter for deliberately ramming his Toyota Prius into the group after a dispute involving one victim, Constantin Sin.
Cover-Up Attempt Blown Apart by Forensics and CCTV
- The pair fled the scene, leaving Constantin fatally injured and another man seriously hurt.
- The car was dumped near Snaresbrook with its registration plates swapped out.
- Forensic teams found Bush’s DNA on the removed plates stored in the car’s boot.
- CCTV footage also tied Bush and an accomplice to the spot where the plates were changed.
Bush later handed himself in but lied to police, claiming he was asleep during the plate swap.
Detective Condemns Bush’s ‘Pathetic’ Cover-Up
“Bush did everything he could to cover up the fact he played a role in this awful incident in a pathetic attempt to avoid justice,” Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley said.
“Constantin was the victim of a callous and frighteningly swift course of actions, for which he paid the ultimate price. He had multiple injuries which were just not survivable.”
