Police Clamp Down on Rebellion Protests in Central London
The Met has slapped strict conditions on tomorrow’s environmental protests in central London, warning protesters they must stick to the rules or face arrest.
Strict Limits and Timings Set for Protesters
- Protests can only happen within Parliament Square Gardens – no off-site gatherings allowed.
- Assemblies must start no earlier than 8am and wrap up by 7pm on Tuesday, 1 September 2020.
- Numbers are capped according to risk assessments and must follow government social distancing rules.
No Vehicles or Floats Allowed in Processions
Under police orders, processions must end in Parliament Square Gardens. No boats, vehicles, trailers, or any structures can take part or join the route at any point.
Commander Jane Connors Issues Stern Warning
“These protests could cause serious disruption to businesses, commuters, communities, and residents – and I will not tolerate that,” said Commander Jane Connors, London’s Gold Commander. “Anyone who ignores these conditions or encourages others to do so may be committing an offence and face arrest.”
Protesters gearing up for Tuesday’s Rebellion demonstration would do well to heed the warnings – or risk being hauled away by police.
