Wiltshire Police Launch Major Crackdown on County Lines Gangs
Wiltshire Police are turning up the heat this week in their fight against ruthless county lines drug gangs. Their mission? To protect vulnerable youngsters from exploitation and bring the criminals to justice.
Education and Safeguarding Front and Centre
Officers and staff are focusing on education and safeguarding to spot the signs of exploitation early. This crackdown ties in with the national #LookCloser campaign by The Children’s Society, working alongside the National County Lines Co-ordination Centre and British Transport Police.
Throughout the week, vulnerable individuals are being visited regularly, with support services provided in partnership with Turning Point. Meanwhile, police teams are hitting up local schools and colleges to warn young people about the dangers of criminal exploitation.
Police and Officials Speak Out
“Here in Wiltshire we’re committed to smashing county lines gangs and shielding those at risk,” said Detective Inspector Paul Franklin. “Our daily efforts are paying off with more arrests, seizures of drugs and weapons, and gangland disruption.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson added, “The public’s concerns about county lines are heard loud and clear. We’re rolling out crucial work aimed at 15 to 18-year-olds, the age group most at risk, to help them spot the warning signs and stay safe.”
Project Optimise and Community Role
This blitz is part of Project Optimise, Wiltshire’s big push against serious organised crime—from drugs and violence to burglary and money laundering. Police say the community’s eyes and ears are vital.
