Teen Gang Member Found Guilty of Rush Hour Station Murder
A 17-year-old gang-linked youth has been convicted of stabbing a 16-year-old boy to death during the busy evening rush at East Croydon station.
Brutal Knife Attack in Broad Daylight
On 27 January, Louis Johnson was travelling with a friend just before 4.30pm when the attacker struck. The teenager pulled out a large ‘zombie’ knife from his trousers on the station overbridge and stabbed Louis once in the chest.
Despite desperate paramedic efforts, Louis died at the scene.
Fleeing Killer Caught on CCTV
- After the stabbing, the teen forced his way through station barriers.
- CCTV footage shows him fleeing the scene, still holding the murder weapon.
- Two days later, he handed himself in to police in Chichester, having shaved off his long hair to avoid recognition.
- A matching knife was found three days after the attack in a chicken shop in Tooting.
Justice for Louis and His Family
“It’s frankly unthinkable that anyone would commit such a brazen act of violence in broad daylight at a busy station full of commuters and school children,” said British Transport Police Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn.
“Louis was only sixteen with his whole life ahead of him. His heartbroken family are still coming to terms with their loss. I thank the brave witnesses who saved Louis’s life and had the courage to testify at court.”
“While no sentence will bring true justice, the convicted killer faces many years behind bars.”
The convicted teen will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 16 October.
