Woman Sexually Assaulted on Southwater’s Downs Link
A woman was running along the Downs Link in Southwater, near the junction of Marlpost and Two Mile Ash Road, when she was pushed to the ground and sexually assaulted by a man at 7.20am on Tuesday, October 27.
Suspect Cycles Away, Victim Treated in Hospital
The attacker fled the scene on a bike when a member of the public approached. The victim was rushed to hospital but has since been discharged. Specialist officers are providing her with ongoing support.
Arrest Made: Christopher Cooper Charged
Police arrested 29-year-old Christopher Cooper, a tree surgeon with no fixed address. He faces charges of attempted rape and assault by penetration. Cooper remains in custody ahead of his court appearance at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 2.
Police Hunt Witnesses and Eyewitness Footage
Authorities are appealing for anyone who saw the assault or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time to come forward.
