Grandmother Crushed in Care Home Hit-and-Run During Police Chase

A 64-year-old woman was flung into the air and seriously injured after a reckless driver tried to dodge police in a shocking care home crash.

Care Home Visit Turns Nightmare

Sigits Ceburs was fleeing from cops when he slammed into Patricia Mellors in Red Oaks Care Home car park on Clipstone Road West. Ms Mellors was there to clear out her late father’s room, grieving after his death earlier that morning.

“I could have been dead. They could have been doing my father’s and my funeral at the same time,” said the grandmother-of-three.

“I heard police sirens, saw blue lights, then suddenly the car came straight at me. It hit me, threw me in the air, then sped off without stopping. Witnesses thought I was dead.”

Miraculously, Ms Mellors managed to shift just enough to avoid being run over. She suffered serious head injuries, a broken pelvis, ankle ligament damage, plus multiple cuts and bruises. She was rushed to King’s Mill Hospital but has since made a full recovery.

Driver’s Wild Escape Ends in Arrest

After hitting Ms Mellors, Ceburs crashed his silver Renault Espace into a care home fence and fled on foot. Police chased him down and arrested him nearby.

Officers had already been tracking the vehicle, spotted with false plates on July 12, 2019. Ceburs, 38, of Mansfield, later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, using fake plates, and driving without insurance or a licence.

Justice Served

At Nottingham Crown Court on October 28, Ceburs was jailed for eight months and banned from driving for 16 months.

Detective Constable Tim Baker said: “We’re glad Ms Mellors has made a full recovery after such a horrific day. Nottinghamshire Police are committed to protecting the public and bringing reckless drivers like Ceburs to justice.”

The case highlights the dangers of dangerous driving and the ongoing efforts by police to keep Nottinghamshire’s roads safe for everyone.
