Knife scare at Asda in Raunds – Man, 22, arrested

A 22-year-old man has been hauled in after a knife incident inside Asda on Michael Way, Raunds last night (Thursday, November 19).

Armed cops swoop after panic calls

Around 9.10pm, Northamptonshire Police Control Room was flooded with calls from shoppers who spotted a man brandishing a knife inside the supermarket. Armed officers raced to the scene and quickly arrested the suspect on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon in public. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The man remains in custody.

Police praise quick action from staff

East Northants Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Leigh Françoise Goodwin said:

“This was a terrifying experience for Asda staff. I want to praise them for safely evacuating customers and handling the situation calmly. Incidents like this are very rare.”

She added the rapid deployment of specialist firearms officers shows the police are ready to protect the community at all times.
