Burglar Busted Hours After Midnight Raid on Families
Caught Red-Handed in Erdington
Hamza Javed was snared by police just hours after pulling off a brazen burglary on Potter Close, Erdington. Acting as lookout, Javed’s two mates broke into a family home while kids slept upstairs on 18 August last year. They made off with £Thousands in jewellery before stealing a black VW Golf and a Mercedes – both later found on College Road, Birmingham.
Second Heist Hits Hall Green
The very next night, Javed and his gang hit again. Around 2 a.m. on 19 August, the trio struck a home in Hall Green’s Robin Hood Lane while the family slept. They swiped a purse and car keys before making off with two Mercedes cars from the driveway.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest
Traffic officer PC Steven Franklin arrived on the scene within minutes, capturing CCTV footage of the black VW Golf on his body cam. At 3 a.m., PCs Richard Adams and Lewis Millington-Moss spotted the Golf and gave chase when it didn’t stop. The suspects drove dangerously before crashing into a parked car.
The men bolted. PC Millington-Moss leapt out, chasing Javed on foot. PC Adams shouted for backup and joined the takedown. Javed was wrestled to the ground, caught red-handed with a stolen Mercedes key. Another stolen key was found in the crashed Golf, linking them to the burglaries.
Justice Served – Jail Time for Javed
The 20-year-old from Guild Close, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and got slammed with five years and three months behind bars at Birmingham Crown Court on 16 February.
Detective Constable Karen Kirman said: “Our officers’ quick actions and sharp communication stopped a dangerous getaway before anyone got hurt. This arrest shows the value of teamwork and vigilance in the early hours.”
“We’ve arrested another man linked to the burglaries, who’s now released pending investigation. Enquiries continue into the third suspect.”
