Crackdown on Anti-Social Driving in Dover Over Weekend
Kent Police teamed up with PCSOs, Kent Special Constabulary, and Dover District Council to tackle anti-social car and motorbike driving across the district on the weekend of 6-7 March 2021.
Speeders, Uninsured Vehicles, and Drug Arrests
Officers targeted known hotspots in Dover, Deal, Walmer, and Capel-Le-Ferne. The Roads Policing Unit reported 10 speeders and seized four vehicles for having no insurance. Three men were arrested on drug offences, and one driver was officially warned for anti-social driving.
Motorcycles Seized and Riders Warned
On Sunday, Dover’s Community Policing Team seized two motorcycles under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act near Terrace Road. Both riders had previous warnings. One rider was also reported for no insurance, while five others received official warnings.
Section 59 allows police to warn riders using vehicles carelessly or off-road. Repeat offenders can have their vehicles seized within 12 months. Six people were also fined for breaching Covid-19 restrictions during the patrols.
More Traffic Offences Logged
- A man was reported for running a red light on London Road.
- Five motorcyclists on Scotland Common faced stop checks. One was reported for a missing rear light and an illegal number plate.
Police and Council Issue Strong Warnings
Inspector Fred McCormack, Dover Community Safety Unit, said: “We take anti-social vehicle use seriously. If you ride off-road bikes, know the law—you must ride only on private land with permission.”
“What some call harmless fun risks serious injury if done illegally and without protective gear.”
Councillor Nigel Collor, Dover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Licensing and Community, added: “Alongside police action, we’re working with partners on long-term solutions to deter nuisance vehicles.”
