Wayne Couzens to Face Four-Week Trial Over Sarah Everard Murder

Wayne Couzens, accused of kidnapping and murdering 33-year-old Sarah Everard, appeared at the Old Bailey this morning via video link. Couzens, who worked for the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was off duty when Ms Everard disappeared.

Trial Date Set for October

Dressed in a grey prison-issued sweatshirt from Deal, Kent, Couzens was charged last Friday and remanded to appear at the Inner London Crown Court. His trial is provisionally scheduled to begin on October 25 and could last up to four weeks.

Investigation Intensifies with Specialist Teams

Couzens is expected to enter a plea on July 9 at a Plea and Directions hearing. The probe into Sarah Everard’s death is ongoing, led by Specialist Crime Command detectives with support from hundreds of Met officers.

Counter-Terrorism and Dive Teams Join the Hunt

Counter-terrorism officers have also been drafted in to assist, alongside Kent police and specialist dive teams from Devon and Cornwall. No bail application was made in court today.
