Students Slammed for Illegal Covid Parties in Canterbury
Students in Canterbury are being told to smarten up and stick to Government Covid rules after a spate of illegal house parties sparked police action.
Four Covid Busts in Just Three Nights
- March 18: Police raided a party at Somner Close at 11.15pm. Five students caught throwing the bash were slapped with fines.
- March 19: Over 10 partygoers tried to sneak out a back door at Otham Close around 11.45pm. Eight scattered, but four were fined.
- March 20 (early): Nearly 20 revellers crammed into a Kemsing Gardens home. Officers turned up just before 11.30pm and handed out 19 fines.
- March 20 (later): Another party on South Street saw 14 more fixed penalty notices issued.
Community Boss Warns Against Rule-breakers
Inspector Guy Thompson from Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: “Students are a valued part of the community in Canterbury and the vast majority continue to respect Government rules to stop the spread of Covid-19.
However, there are a small number who cause a nuisance to neighbours and break the law by hosting parties and large gatherings.”
He added the police are working closely with universities, which have also warned students about the harsh consequences of flouting the rules.
Canterbury Authorities Stand Firm on Covid Enforcement
Officials vow to keep cracking down on illegal parties to protect public health and maintain peace in student neighbourhoods. Students are urged to think twice before breaking the law and risking fines.
