Blaze Rips Through Former Southampton Cattery, Cuts Power to 300 Homes
A fierce fire tore through a former cattery in Southampton early this morning, sparking chaos and plunging hundreds of homes into darkness.
Neighbours Spot Flames, Firefighters Rush In
The blaze broke out just after 10am at the old Fairways cattery on West End Road. Locals spotted raging flames and quickly alerted the fire brigade. Crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Eastleigh, and Redbridge rushed to the scene, battling the inferno that also engulfed multiple outbuildings and a nearby power sub-station.
Power Cut Hits Hundreds, Fix Expected by Afternoon
The fire damaged the power sub-station, knocking out electricity to around 300 homes in the area. Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE) confirmed engineers are on site and expect to restore power by 1.30pm.
Residents have been warned to prepare for ongoing disruption while crews contain the fire and repair the damage.
